You can connect a lightweight access control feature to Systam Studio (Systam Gateway Service, SGS) that opens a single door or gate, without building a full integration to a dedicated access control system. The door or gate is opened by a small relay controller.
The relay is triggered by a QR code
A QR code reader scans the code on the visitor badge or in the pre-arrival message and opens the connected lock.
The QR code shows up for the visitor in two places, and each one is switched on separately under Studio → Settings → Visit types → [visit type] → Edit:
- In the pre-arrival message: turn on Show QR code.
- On the printed visitor badge: turn on Printed visitor badge settings.
What you need before installing
- A 9–28V DC power supply for the relay controller. If only 230V is available in the electrical cabinet, Systam can also supply a DIN-rail 230VAC → 24VDC power unit.
- A wired network connection to the internet (RJ45).
- If you're installing a QR code reader: a USB cable between the reader and the relay controller.
- Wiring from the relay controller to the door or gate opening circuit.
Installation
- Mount the relay controller on a DIN rail, typically inside the electrical cabinet for the door or gate.
- If you're using a Systam-supplied power unit, mount it on the DIN rail too and connect the 230V supply to it. Wire its 24VDC output to the relay controller's power input (9–28V DC).
- Connect a network cable (RJ45) to the relay controller for the internet connection.
- Wire the controller's relay output O1 in parallel with the existing door-opening button. When the controller receives a valid trigger, the relay closes for a few seconds — just like someone pressing the button.
- If you're installing a QR code reader, place it outside the door or gate and connect it to the relay controller with a USB cable. The relay controller itself always stays indoors, away from condensing conditions.
Once installed, the gate shows up as its own device in Systam Studio's device list (Devices). Systam support does the initial setup, but you'll find the device there and can check its status.
Firewall and network access
The relay controller needs outbound access to the same Systam cloud domain used by your other Systam Visit devices, plus a connection for remote support.

Whitelist by domain name rather than IP address, since addresses can change without notice. If the controller doesn't come online after installation, this is the first thing to check with the customer's IT team — see also Systam Visit network and firewall requirements for the full picture of what else the site's network needs to allow.

Good to know: the QR reader can be installed outdoors, but the relay controller and any power unit always belong indoors, in non-condensing conditions.
