Opening doors and gates with a visitor badge

Modified on Wed, 10 Jun at 9:22 AM

With Systam Gateway Service, visitors can open doors and gates using the QR code on their visitor badge. No staff assistance needed — the visitor holds their code up to the reader and the door opens automatically.

How it works

The system is based on relay-controlled access:

  1. The visitor holds their QR code up to the Systam QR reader.
  2. The controller box connected to the reader sends the code to Systam's servers for verification.
  3. The server checks whether the visitor badge is valid and whether the person has access to that specific door or gate.
  4. If access is granted, the relay triggers and the door opens — the same action as pressing the open button on the inside of the door.

Where visitors find their QR code

The QR code is available in several places:

  • Printed on the visitor badge at sign-in
  • In the pre-arrival message sent before the visit
  • As a mobile visitor card via the visitor link

Hardware requirements

The integration requires Systam hardware to be installed at each access point:

  • QR reader — reads the visitor's code
  • Controller box — connects the QR reader to Systam's service. Requires a network connection and power supply.

Hardware is supplied by Systam. Installation is the customer's responsibility.

Setup

Systam configures all access points and their logic together with the customer. Contact Systam support or your account contact at support@systam.io to get started.

Your visitors move freely from that point on — no queuing, no waiting for staff.
